Rescuing Recess: Playworks in Boston
Play coaches help students improve mind and body

All too many students don’t have time to play at school – or they just sit on the sidelines at recess. Believing that students who play are more successful, Playworks -- a national nonprofit organization --  supports learning by providing trained, full-time play coaches at schools.

These enthusiastic adults work on-site to teach games and encourage students to participate in a healthy and engaging recess and in playground and classroom activities.

In 2006, Playworks launched programs in seven Boston schools and since then has grown to 22 schools across Boston, Cambridge and Revere. The results include recess times with fewer conflicts, more positive relationships among students and better focus in classes. Find more information.
